Designing a time of prayer

Designing a time of prayer

Attunement: I go to the prayer place I have prepared for myself. After a bow or the sign of the cross I take my sitting posture. I make sure to sit upright and well. I renew my willingness to bestow God all the time. I do not need to achieve anything, I may just be there the entire time. Perhaps at the beginning I want to express some things that matter to me just before God. I can formulate a short prayer in my own words or pray the Our Father.

A) Words from the Holy Scripture

(about 5 minutes, www.dailygospel.org)

"Jesus asked his disciples, Who do people say that the Son of Man is? And they said: Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets. He said to them, But who do you say that I am?Simon Peter replied: You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.And Jesus answered him: Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven

Who is Jesus for me? What is the answer of my heart? How "alive" is my God, my relationship with God? Peter finds his very own, new identity in the strength and in the rock foundation of his soul and his relationship with Christ. In the vision of Jesus and recognising him Peter receives a key to a new world, to his own heart.

B) Breathing exercises (about 5 minutes)

Listen to the flow of breath, its triple rhythm: exhalation - pause - inhalation.

C) Jesus Prayer (about 20 minutes)

I put together the palms and dwell upon the attentive perception of the space between my palms or their contact. With each exhalation I speak an inner "Jesus." With each inhalation I speak inwardly "Christ." I perceive whether or how the name "Jesus" comes into my palms with the exhalation. I can observe whether an internal sound is associated with the name "Jesus Christ", an atmosphere in which I can immerse. How do I experience the relationship with Jesus Christ? I stay with breathing in and out, with "Jesus - Christ". The name may come and go in the natural rhythm of the breath.

D) Final Prayer

I express myself in a short prayer, confide in Jesus. It may help to speak this prayer not only internally, but in an undertone or clearly audible. How have I experienced my relationship with him? What do I want to tell him? Do I have questions to him?
